Overview[]
The World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC) refers to a series of regular meetings of the CCIR (now ITU-R) to allocate radio frequency spectrum. These include:
- ITU Preparatory to World Administrative Radio Conference Panama 1979
- ITU World Administrative Radio Conference Geneva 1979 (WARC-79)
- ITU World Administrative Radio Conference Geneva 1984 (WARC-84)
- ITU World Administrative Radio Conference Geneva 1992 (WARC-92)
WARCs were the primary forum for distributing the frequencies of the spectrum to the various radiocommunication services. They addressed either all radio services (a general WARC) or only specific portions of the spectrum (specialized WARC).
The Final Acts of a WARC have international treaty status and must be signed by member governments. The allocations decided on at a WARC usually are incorporated into domestic tables of allocations. WARCs were renamed by the ITU, and now are called world radiocommunication conferences in the future.
