Definitions[]

Volatile memory is "memory that loses its content when power is turned off or lost."[1]

Volatile memory is

[c]omputer memory that does not retain data after removal of all electrical power sources and/ or when reinserted into a similarly configured Automated Information System (AIS). In contrast to Non-Volatile Memory (NVM), volatile memory retains data as long as the power supply is on, but if the power supply is removed or interrupted, the stored memory is lost.[2]
