Definition Edit

A vanity telephone number is the alphanumeric equivalents of a telephone number. In many countries, such as the United States, letters corresponding to each digit on a telephone keypad. The letters corresponding to a particular telephone number can form a word, a partial word, an acronym, abbreviation, or an alphanumeric combination; these are known as "vanity telephone numbers" or "phonewords."

Overview Edit

The main advantages of vanity telephone numbers over standard phone numbers are increased memorability and increased response rates to advertising. They are easier to remember than numeric phone numbers, therefore when businesses use them as a direct response tool in their advertising (radio, television, print, outdoor, etc.) they increase response rates.
