Definition Edit

"Traditional unlicensed equipment consists of low powered devices that operate in a limited geographic range, such as garage door openers and devices that offer wireless access to the Internet. They include Wi-Fi-enabled local area networks and fixed outdoor broadband transceivers used by wireless Internet service providers to connect devices to broadband networks."[1]

Overview Edit

"In its February 2013 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, FCC stated that unlicensed devices typically operate at very low power over relatively short distances and often employ various techniques, such as dynamic spectrum access or listen-before-talk protocols, to reduce the interference risk to others as well as themselves. The primary operating condition for unlicensed devices is that the operator must accept whatever interference is received and must correct whatever interference is caused."[2]
