The Unclassified but Sensitive Internet Protocol Router Network (also called Non-secure Internet Protocol Router Network or NIPRNET) (formerly the Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network) is the unclassified network of the U.S. Department of Defense which provides Internet access as well as interconnectivity to DoD users and facilities. NIPRNET is also increasingly used by the DOD to allow its personnel to gain access the Internet without leaving their own computers open to "reverse entry" by hackers, terrorists, and others.
