Transparency law[s] are

[s]tate and federal laws that ensure that government records and certain meetings are open and accessible to the public. Transparency laws promote civic involvement in the functioning of government at all levels. The federal Freedom of Information Act and state Open Meeting Laws are examples of transparency laws.[1]
