A Transmission Line Monitoring System is

[h]ardware, software, including sensors for voltage, current, temperature, mechanical load, wind speed, or other electrical or environmental parameters, including synchrophasors. These systems are designed to provide precise information that determine the operating conditions and ratings of transmission lines. Such a system can monitor line conditions and alert grid operators of trouble.[1]
