Citation Edit

U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, National Energy Technology Laboratory, The Transmission Smart Grid Imperative (Sept. 2009) (full-text).

Overview Edit

This report argues that growth of large central station wind and solar farms, a national priority, will be stymied unless existing power transmission capacity is increased using new technology, along with the addition of new high-capacity, high-voltage direct current and high-voltage alternating current. The transition to a smart grid requires much more transmission capability and the required investment of money.
