Clifford Stoll, The Cuckoo's Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage (1989) (not available online).

Overview Edit

This book recounted the author's discovery in 1986 of the first, well-publicized international security incident. A simple accounting error in the computer records of systems connected to ARPANET led Stoll to uncover an international effort, using the network, to connect to computers in the United States and copy information from them. These computers were located at universities, military and government sites throughout the United States.
