Technical security is

[t]he programs established primarily to protect classified and unclassified controlled information, such as technical surveillance countermeasures, communications security, emission security, and TEMPEST.[1]
[s]ecurity mechanisms and procedures that are implemented in and executed by computer hardware, firmware, or software to provide automated protection for a system.[2]
[a] security discipline dedicated to detecting, neutralizing, and/or exploiting a wide variety of hostile and foreign penetration technologies.[3]
