Subcontracting is the transfer of a business function or task (or a part thereof) from one third-party service provider to another.

U.S. government contracting[]

Subcontracting

occurs when a Government prime contractor awards a contract to another company (the subcontractor) to perform part or all of the prime contractor's obligations under its contract with the Government. It includes situations where a supplier, distributor, vendor, or firm furnishes supplies or services to another subcontractor.[1]
