Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure for Improved Health Outcomes is funded within the Prevention and Public Health Fund under the Affordable Care Act and is designed to advance any or all of the key areas for infrastructure investment and to help ensure successful implementation of the Affordable Care Act, specifically by: improving the public health workforce, developing information systems to support adoption and implementation of rules and regulations, reengineering of infrastructure to improve networking and coordination, implementing best health care practices and impact evaluation, improving information and data system capacity, and improving organizational capacity. The new program is seeking to increase the performance management capacity of public health departments and ensure that public health goals are being met.[1]
