Definition[]

Social bookmarking is a web-based service where users create and store links.

Overview[]

Although web browsers have the ability to bookmark pages, those links are tied to that browser on that computer. Social bookmarking, in contrast, is tied to an online account, which can be made public. These bookmarks can be shared and discovered by others. Examples of social bookmarking sites include del.icio.us, Digg, and Reddit.
