Overview Edit

The Smart Grid Advisory Committee was established in 2008 by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as required by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA). Members are selected by the DOE secretary from both private and nonfederal public sector stakeholders based on their experience, expertise, and ability to represent the full range of smart grid technologies and services.

The purpose of the committee is to advise relevant federal officials concerning the development of smart grid technologies, the progress of a national transition to the use of smart grid technologies and services, the evolution of widely accepted technical and practical standards and protocols to allow interoperability and intercommunication among smart grid-capable devices, and the optimum means of using federal funding to encourage such progress. The committee has been incorporated into the Electricity Advisory Committee.
