Definitions Edit

A Small Unmmanned Aircraft (SUA) is

[a]ny unmanned aircraft, other than a balloon or a kite, having a mass of not more than 20 kg without its fuel but including any articles or equipment installed in or attached to the aircraft at the commencement of its flight.[1]
an unmanned aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds, including everything that is on board the aircraft.[2]

A Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA) is "an unmanned aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds."[3]

Overview Edit

"The FAA proposes to interpret the statutory definition of small unmanned aircraft as referring to total weight at the time of takeoff because heavier aircraft generally pose greater amounts of public risk in the event of an accident. In the event of a crash, a heavier aircraft can do more damage to people and property on the ground."[4]
