Definitions Edit

A script is

[a] sequence of instructions, ranging from a simple list of operating system commands to full-blown programming language statements, which can be executed automatically by an interpreter.[1]
[a] file containing active content; for example, commands or instructions to be executed by the computer.[2]

Overview Edit

Network administrators often use scripts to facilitate completion of a task such as creation of user accounts or the implementation of security updates. Scripts are easily obtained, often shared via the Internet, and can be used by individuals with limited computer knowledge. Scripts can be used to discover and exploit a network’s vulnerabilities.
