On August 10, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), Pub. L. No. 109-59, providing $286.4 billion in guaranteed funding for federal surface transportation programs over five years through FY 2009.
