A rule means

a special rule on how to use, in a particular program, a programming language mentioned in the preceding item.[1]

General Edit

A rule is

[a] specific requirement or prohibition that is stated to prevent deviations from policy or procedure. A violation of a rule typically results in an internal investigation and may result in disciplinary action.[2]
