A records schedule is

a document that describes an organization's records, establishes a period for their retention, and provides mandatory instructions for what to do with the records when they are no longer needed for current business. Scheduling records includes, among other things, reviewing the organization's functions and recordkeeping requirements, and determining how long records are needed for conducting the organization's operations and meeting its legal obligations.[1]
