Overview Edit

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is the trade group that represents the U.S. record companies. Its 500 members are record companies that create, manufacture and/or distribute approximately 90% of all legitimate sound recordings produced and sold in the United States.

Although not really a licensing agency, the RIAA was designated as the single entity to collect and distribute all royalty fees paid by digital audio broadcasters under the DPRA.

The RIAA has taken an active role in negotiating and facilitating the royalty payments owed by webcasters under the statutory licenses created by the DMCA.
