A receive-only terminal (ROT) is

[a] device that is configured to accept a limited type of data but is technically prohibited from forming or transmitting data, browsing or navigating network or external networks, or otherwise performing outside the scope of receive only (e.g., a printer, dumb terminal, etc.).[1]
