Privacy protection is

a process of finding appropriate balances between privacy and multiple competing interests, such as justice information sharing.[1]
[a] process of maximizing the protection of privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties when collecting and sharing information in the process of protecting public safety and public health.[2]
[t]he establishment of appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the security and confidentiality of data records against anticipated threats or hazards that could result in substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to any individual about whom such information is maintained.[3]
[p]rotective measures to ensure that information on internet user activities is not disclosed to any unwanted parties and is not used for purposes other than those to which the owner has consented. This refers to the right of individuals to verify the information concerning them that can be collected either directly, or indirectly by observing their internet behaviour and the sites they visit.[4]
