DHS Privacy Office, Privacy Incident Handling Guidance (PIHG) (Ver. 2.1) (Sept. 10, 2007) (full-text).

Overview Edit

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has a duty to safeguard personally identifiable information (PII) in its possession and to prevent the breach of PII in order to maintain the public’s trust in DHS.

This Guide informs Department of Homeland Security (DHS) organizations, employees, senior officials, and contractors of their obligation to protect personally identifiable information (PII) and establishes procedures delineating how they must respond to the potential loss or compromise of PII. The PIHG also provides for individual accountability to create an incentive for compliance, thus ensuring the effective implementation of the guidance.
