The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Services, Privacy Act Office is responsible for implementation of the Indian Health Service (IHS) Privacy Program.

The Program is based on the Privacy Act of 1974, as amended,[1] as implemented by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)[2] and HHS regulatory authority,[3] and is intended to provide a comprehensive framework regulating how and when IHS collects, maintains, uses, or disseminates personal information on individuals. The purpose of the Program is to balance the information requirements and needs of the Department against the privacy interests and concerns of the individual.
