Definition Edit

The prisoner's dilemma

describes a situation in which each of two players (prisoners) must choose whether to compete with (by ratting on) or cooperate with (by staying silent about) the other. Each player's individual advantage lies with competing with the other (whether or not the other player competes or cooperates), but both would be better off if they both cooperated.[1]
