Portability is

[c]apability for transporting of data or programs between computers or computer systems without any required modification thereof.[1]
1. [t]he ability to transfer data from one system to another without being required to recreate or reenter data descriptions or to modify significantly the application being transported. 2. The ability of software or of a system to run on more than one type or size of computer under more than one operating system. . . . 3. Of equipment, the quality of being able to function normally while being conveyed.[2]
