Personal electronic device (PED) refers to

small, transportable electronic items that are equipped with the capabilities to process, store, transmit, receive, and/or manipulate electronic data.[1]
[a]ny nonstationary electronic apparatus with singular or multiple capabilities of recording, storing, and/or transmitting data, voice, video, or photo images. This includes but is not limited to laptops, personal digital assistants, pocket personal computers, palmtops, MP3 players, cellular telephones, thumb drives, video cameras, and pagers.[2]
