Definitions[]

Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is

[a] system[] with small vehicles carrying either one person or groups of up to six usually traveling together by choice. Plans for PRT systems typically include off-line stations connected by a guideway’ network. Under computer control, vehicles switch at guideway intersections so as to follow the shortest uncontested path from origin to destination without intermediate stops.[1]
a transport system featuring small fully automatic vehicles for the transport of people, with the following characteristics: a) PRT systems operate on its own exclusive infrastructure, so there is no interaction with other traffic; b) they are fully automated systems that under normal operating conditions do not require human interaction; c) they are small with a capacity usually limited to 4 to 6 persons per vehicle; d) PRT offer on-demand service, where people are transported directly from origin station to destination station without stopping at intermediate stations, without changing vehicles and ideally without waiting time.[2]
