Payola is the practice of payment of money or other consideration to a radio station in exchange of airplay of music.

Overview Edit

Under Section 317 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, and Section 73.1212 of the FCC's Rules, a radio station that plays a musical selection in exchange for such consideration must air an announcement, at the time that the song is broadcast, disclosing the arrangement and identifying who furnished or on whose behalf the consideration was furnished.
