Overview[]
The Act outlaws the use of computers to generate child pornography, or depicting minors in any obscene or sexual acts. The Act enhances tools to protect children and more severely punish those who victimize children. The act also amended the Communications Decency Act so that it applies to child pornography transmitted via the Internet and prohibited "virtual" child pornography.
The Act also contains a provision (Sec. 108, Misleading Domain Names on the Internet) that makes it a punishable crime to knowingly use a misleading domain name with the intent to deceive a person into viewing obscenity on the Internet. Increased penalties are provided for deceiving minors into viewing harmful material.
