Definition Edit

PDF (an acronym for Portable Document Format; also .pdf) is a common proprietary document format from Adobe used for documents having mixtures of text and images that preserves the look and feel of a printed page and permits the user to zoom and magnify the pages when viewing.

Overview Edit

It allows users "to exchange and view electronic documents independent of the environment in which they were created or the environment in which they are viewed."[1]

[A] PDF document is like a series of photographs: every page will show up on the screen exactly as the designer laid it out, but the reader may find it difficult to enlarge or decrease the type size.[2]
