Overview[]

In 1997 and 1998, the Federal Trade Commission led two "surf days" to target "miracle cures" for serious illnesses ("Operation Cure All"). After these surfs, the FTC and the FDA brought several cases against marketers of products such as magnetic therapy devices and shark cartilage for claims that these products could cure cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, or other diseases.
