An Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model is

[a]n archive, consisting of an organization of people and systems, that has accepted responsibility to preserve information and make it available for one or more designated communities.[1]
a model of a system for long-term preservation. Digital preservation systems that are 'OAIS-compliant' conform to recommended framework for ingest, access, data management, storage, metadata, and more.[2]
