Overview[]

In July 1997 the Office of Computer Investigations and Infrastructure Protection (OCIIP) was established to bring computer intrusions and infrastructure protection under one umbrella organization at the FBI. It was characterized as "the government's warning center for attacks on public and private infrastructures."[1] It reported to the national security and computer investigations divisions.

It was superseded by the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) on May 1998.
