OECD Policy Guidance on Radio Frequency Identification (full-text).

Overview Edit

The Policy encouraged research on the economic and social impacts of such technologies and argued for addressing policy issues early in their development and deployment. It aimed to foster business R&D and new applications, encourage technological neutrality, develop information, awareness and education activities and demonstration projects, particularly for new applications. It also encourages the development of consensus-based open global standards, international interoperability and harmonization of frequency bands as appropriate.

The guidance points out the need to prevent and mitigate security risks and to address privacy concerns arising when information relating to an identified or identifiable individual is collected or processed.
