Normalization is

[a] process that eliminates redundancy, organizes data efficiently, and reduces the potential for anomalies during data operations and improves data consistency.[1]
[t]he process of organizing, analyzing, and cleaning data to increase efficiency for data use and sharing. Normalization usually includes data structuring and refinement, redundancy and error elimination, and standardization.[2]
