Overview Edit

The mission of the National Protection and Programs Directorate, within the Department of Homeland Security, is to advance the Department's risk-reduction mission. It serves as the lead for protecting and enhancing the resilience of the U.S.'s physical and cyber infrastructure.

This program is intended to reduce the U.S. federal government's vulnerability to cyber threats by decreasing the frequency of cyberspace disruptions and minimizing the duration and damage of those disruptions. It is expected to provide capabilities in four cyber mission areas: (1) threat alert, warning, and analysis; (2) coordination and collaboration; (3) response and assistance; and (4) protection and detection.

The National Protection and Programs Directorate is one of the 24 components that comprise the Department of Homeland Security.
