A mobile platform is

the hardware and software environments for smartphones and handheld devices.
[a] computing system which can be easily carried by a human and can connect by wire or wireless to the Internet.[1]
commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) computing platforms, with or without wireless connectivity, that are handheld in nature. Examples of these mobile platforms include mobile computers such as smart phones, tablet computers, or other portable computers.[2]
