Mediation is

[a] [p]rocess of bringing parties engaged in a dispute or disagreement together to settle their differences through a meeting with disinterested party, the mediator. Unlike binding arbitration, the mediator has no authority to force a settlement.[1]
[a]n informal type of dispute resolution in which a third party (mediator) helps two parties come to an agreement.[2]
