Definition Edit

Machine cognition is

the utilization and application of . . . processed information to recognize patterns and make decisions relevant to the missions or functions being performed.[1]

Overview Edit

"Machine cognition is a major challenge for the development of IA systems. High-level cognitive ability of machines is necessary to enable them to operate independently of humans for complex, dynamic missions. Achieving this will require consideration of the expectations of the humans who are managing these systems, especially if the system design includes provisions for some level of human intervention in the event of degraded performance or partial system failures."[2]
