Definition Edit

The Last Tactical Mile pilot project

originated as part of a joint urgent operational need to utilize wireless infrastructure to transmit biometrics data from handheld biometrics collection devices to a wireless communications tower, with a capability of providing match/no match responses to the warfighter with watchlist and latent fingerprint matches within 2 to 5 minutes of transmission. . . . [The] project utilizes mobile transmission points and fixed wireless towers capable of transmitting biometrics data approximately 50 miles. In situations with reduced line-of-sight, transmission distances decrease.[1]
