Kermit was a communications program that ran on many different computers including Macs and DOS-based PCs. It could instruct a computer to dial a modem through which a user could log onto a Unix computer system and read e-mail. Kermit was not a Windows program, so commands could not be given via a computer mouse.
Commands had to come from a keyboard. It made a computer emulate a VT100 terminal.
