Overview[]

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is a group of military leaders in the United States armed forces who advise the civilian government of the United States. The JCS is defined by statute and consists of a Chairman and Vice Chairman appointed by the President, and the Chiefs of service from the four branches of the armed services.

Cybersecurity[]

The JCS:

  • Maintains Joint Staff country desk officers to liaise with foreign military counterparts in coordination with Defense Attachés and the Department of State.
  • Provides liaison officers to the U.N. Military mission.
  • Develops and provides professional military education with respect to joint military doctrine, including cyberspace operations, to allied nations.
  • Represents the JCS and provides guidance to other U.S. agencies participating in international efforts via the International Sub-IPC.
