An Internet appliance is

a computer or other device designed to support a user's access to the Internet (i.e. browsing) but without using any of the popular PC operating systems or applications.
a set-top device enabling a television set to be used to access the Internet (such as WebTV) instead of a personal computer (PC).[1]
