An intelligence officer is

[a] professional employee of an intelligence organization engaged in intelligence activities.[1]
[a] law enforcement officer assigned to an agency's intelligence function for the purposes of investigation, liaison, or other intelligence-related activity that requires or benefits from having a sworn officer perform the activity.[2]
