Executive Office of the President, Informing Consumers Through Smart Disclosure (Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies) (Sept. 8, 2011) (full-text).

Overview Edit

The purpose of this Memorandum is to set out guidance for agencies to inform and facilitate the use of disclosure, specifically "smart disclosure."

To the extent practicable and subject to valid restrictions, agencies should publish information online in an open format that can be retrieved, downloaded, indexed, and searched by commonly used Web search applications. An open format is one that is platform independent, machine readable, and made available to the public without restriction that would impede the re-use of that information.[1]
