Overview Edit

The goal of this IT Handbook and accompanying standards is to provide a single summary of the minimum cyber security criteria needed to protect DOI's business critical functions and the information assets and technologies that support them. The document is based on public laws, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars and memorandums, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and guidelines, and DOI specific security issues, concerns, and experiences.

This document provides a framework for bureaus and offices to expand upon for mitigating risks to DOI information assets and technologies (resources). Its design is intended to be consistent with DOI policies and governmental laws that regulate specific types of information.
