Overview Edit

Homeland Security Presidential Directives set national policies and executive mandates for specific programs and activities. The first was issued on October 29, 2001, shortly after the attacks on September 11, 2001, establishing the Homeland Security Council. It was followed by a series of directives regarding the full spectrum of actions required to “prevent terrorist attacks within the United States; reduce America’s vulnerability to terrorism, major disasters, and other emergencies; and minimize the damage and recover from incidents that do occur.”
