are part of an informal banking system common in many parts of the Arabic culture. Tied by links of family and kinship, hawaladars (individual bankers) will extend credit or make payments locally based upon communications with their partners overseas. With the flow of debts and obligations back and forth, actually settlement of debts between individual hawaladars is relatively infrequent.[1]
