Overview[]
These Guidelines were adopted by the U.N. General Assembly pursuant to Article 10 of the Charter of the United Nations. This Article empowers the U.N. General Assembly to make recommendations to Members States. Members must take the Guidelines into account when implementing national regulation concerning computerized personal data files, but the procedures for implementing those regulations are left to the initiative of each State.
